Dear YEC Friend -#2 Theistic Evolution

Dear Friend,

In our last conversation, the topic of theistic evolution came up.

To refresh, a theist is a person who believes in a god.  It is the opposite of atheist.  Theistic is the adjective of the word theist, just as atheistic is the adjective of the word atheist.

Evolution, in terms of biology, is a change in the gene pool of a population from generation to generation by such processes as mutation, natural selection, and genetic drift.  It does not deal with the origins of life, but rather the changes in life.  I only mention this because the idea that evolution deals with the origins of life is a very common misconception.

So, theistic evolution basically means the belief that God is ‘responsible’ for the mechanisms of mutation, natural selection and genetic drift.
