Evolution Misconception #7 – Religion

Evolution is a religion.

Evolution is a worldview.

Evolution is atheistic. (Already addressed)

The dictionary definition of religion is:

a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe, especially when considered as the creation of a superhuman agency or agencies, usually involving devotional and ritual observances, and often containing a moral code governing the conduct of human affairs.

Evolution does not look at the cause of the universe.  That is cosmogony.

Evolution does not look at the nature of the universe.  That is cosmology.

Evolution does not look at the purpose of the universe.  That is teleology.

Evolution does not take into account any type of superhuman being/deity.

Evolution does not have any ritual observances.

Evolution is not concerned with morals.  It is not immoral, but simply amoral.

So, based on all this, evolution fails on all counts to qualify as a ‘religion’.

More information can be found here.

The next time you hear/read the assertion that evolution is a religion, tell yourself and your children, ‘No, it isn’t.  Evolution is a science.’

About yewnique

I am a Malaysian-born woman who is married to an Australian and now live in Melbourne, Australia. I am a mother to four children. I home school. I like reading, writing, and cooking -- not necessarily in that order. I care about grammar and spelling, but am nonchalant about the Oxford Comma. I try to follow Christ's teachings.
