The Truth about Evolution

Sometimes – well, okay, a lot of times – when one listens to young-Earth Creationists’ objections to evolutionary theory one encounters the same arguments again and again.  Some of these objections are based on misconceptions about what evolution is.  Others are based on ignorance (or perhaps, wishful thinking), eg, “There are so many problems with evolution that it is only a matter of time before it is discarded.”

Rebuttals to these claims are often met with distrust and/or skepticism: “Well, of course scientists wouldn’t like to admit they’re wrong.”  The implication is there is some sort of conspiracy going on.  If you find yourself nodding your head, you know what I am talking about.

So, it is absolutely refreshing to see a young-Earth Creationist ‘stand up for’ evolution.  In his blog, Todd Wood says:

Evolution is not a theory in crisis. It is not teetering on the verge of collapse. It has not failed as a scientific explanation. There is evidence for evolution, gobs and gobs of it. It is not just speculation or a faith choice or an assumption or a religion. It is a productive framework for lots of biological research, and it has amazing explanatory power. There is no conspiracy to hide the truth about the failure of evolution. There has really been no failure of evolution as a scientific theory. It works, and it works well.

I realise that this blog entry is over one-and-a-half years old.  That’s ancient in blog time.  Still, the observations Dr Wood made back then are still true today.  More so, in fact.

Dr Wood is a fair dinkum young-Earth Creationist and you can read more about him here.
