Background Information

The Jonathan Park CDs are produced by Vision Forum Ministries. Through these CDs, VF hope to ‘provide children and adults with scientific evidence that is in harmony with the Word of God’. [Which raises the questions, ‘What does “in harmony” mean?’ and ‘What do they do with scientific evidence that is not in harmony with the Word of God?’]

Tagline: This is our Father’s world, God created it; we can explore it, so live the adventure!

NOTE: The producers of this series neglect to reference their information in any form.  No references is ever given either on the CD or in the Study Guide for ANY information presented in the series.  Even the voice actors of the series are not given any credit anywhere.  We only know that the series is a production of Vision Forum Ministries.

Review

This episode showcased the various organisations that make a stand for Young-Earth Creationism.

Topics in this episode:

Victoria Institute

The Victoria Institute was founded by a group of scientists who lived during Darwin’s time. Its purpose was to ‘investigate fully and impartially the most important questions of philosophy and science, but more especially those that bear upon the great truths revealed in Holy Scripture with the view of defending these truths  against the opposition of Science falsely so called.’ It seems they were a group of scientists who wanted to show the scientific case for Creation. This group of scientists united only six years after The Origin of Species came out to combat the theory of evolution and to fight for Scripture. They saw what was beginning to happen to society as a result of Darwin’s ideas.

(3:39-5:10)

Response: More about the Victoria Institute here.  The Victoria Institute now goes by the working name of Faith and Thought.

Though it was anti-evolution at first, the institute joined the theistic evolution camp by the 1920s.

The Dangers of Evolution and the Salvation Message

Horrible things have been passed down through the generations. Erasmus Darwin believed a dangerous lie and he passed that lie down to his grandson. And he and others have continued to pass that legacy of death down to generations yet to come.

Newton Bracewell lived the life that is talked about in Deuteronomy 4:9.

Romans 3:10 says that none of us are worthy. Romans 6:23 tells us that the punishment for sin is death. But, Jesus came to take the punishment for our sins, to take our place.  It’s like a spiritual inheritance, becoming the children of God.

(5:50-8:15)

Response: The ‘Salvation Message’ presented here is pretty much the ‘standard’ one that evangelicals use.

Evolution and Christianity are not mutually exclusive.

This has nothing to do with whether evolutionary biology is right or not.

Young-Earth Creationist Organisations

The Religion and Science Association

The Religion and Science Association began in 1935. They were committed to the young age of the earth as presented in the Bible, instead of the long ages demanded by evolution. They studied geology to show support for a worldwide flood.

The Creation Deluge  Society

The Creation Deluge Society was started by the leaders of The Religion and Science Association when that organisation failed (!!). Started a publication called The Bulletin of Deluge Geology and Related Sciences. They held meetings in Los Angeles and were committed to showing evidence for the plain meaning of a six-day Creation.

Creation Research Society

The Creation Research Society was founded when ten Creation Scientists came together in 1963.  All of them realised that secular journals would not publish scientific evidence for creation, so they envisioned beginning their own journal.  It was a success and the journal is still going.

Institute for Creation Research

The Institute for Creation Research was founded by Dr Henry Morris, one of the founding fathers of the modern Creation Science movements. ICR has held seminars all around the world, produced thousands of books and videos and established the first Creation Museum. They have also founded a graduate school, they broadcast thousands of radio programs and they are still changing lives to this very day.

Answers in Genesis

Answers in Genesis was begun in 1994 by Ken Ham and others who ministered together at ICR. Their dream was to reach the laymen with exciting news of the Creation Message. Their approach was to put God’s Word first showing that it is in harmony with faith. They’ve become a huge creation ministry with thousands of books, videos, seminars and outreach programs. In 2007, they completed their dream of building the biggest Creation Museum of all time. They’ve reached thousands of people.  God is really using them to touch lives with the Good News of the Creator.

(8:40-11:47)

Response: None of this has to do with whether evolution is right or not.  In fact, it shows very clearly that these organisations are more committed to holding to a literal interpretation of the Creation account than they are to science.

The Genesis Flood

The modern creation movement was started by Dr Whitcomb and Dr Morris; together they wrote The Genesis Flood.  At the time, many Christians had abandoned belief in the worldwide flood. They thought that the millions of years demanded by evolution had been confirmed by the slow processes of geology. But Whitcomb and Morris’ book showed how the geologic layers were better explained by a flood and didn’t take millions of years. As  a result, many came back to a trust in God’s Word.

Response: Articles on Flood Geology.

Conclusion

The CRT come to the end of the scavenger hunt and see many, many artifacts that were considered lost.  They meet Alan Bracewell who explains that he got the ball rolling by sending them the Polar Star medallion hoping that they would take the bait in going on the scavenger hunt.  Robert Bracewell decides he wants a Godly inheritance for him and his family. They all agree that the real treasure is changed lives.

Trenton is reported to have been caught by the FBI (!), but Myles Morgan deludes them yet again!!

At the end, a voice comes on to say that while the characters and story have been fictitious, it has been based on real evidence and real events – the evil fruits of evolution have taken their toll on modern society.
