Penang White Curry Noodles

My Facebook news feed had been littered with people talking about something called Penang White Curry Noodles. It is very popular, but very hard to find. Friends in Kuala Lumpur planned trips to Penang to get their hands on this item.

Then, Malaysians in Melbourne started talking about it, too . About how funny it was that it was easier to find in Melbourne than it was in KL! About how they went to the Asian Supermarket only to find it had sold out!

So I decided to find out exactly what this curry laksa that everyone is talking about is.  I did a search on the internet and found out that it is really nothing more than glorified instant noodles!  Yes, instant noodles!  And, priced accordingly to reflect its glory. All this time, I thought it was a curry paste to make a curry to which one then adds one’s own noodles and other ingredients.

I went out today and found the much talked-about Penang White Curry Noodles and bought a pack.

All gone!

All gone!

Personally, I like thicker noodles for a curry laksa.  Or, with rice noodles.

The soup was thick and spicy.  If you like it hot, you will not be disappointed!
